Carolina Shines on Day One of UVA Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Carolina women’s tennis team got off to a hot start at the UVA Invitational on Friday. Five Gamecocks posted a singles win, while two doubles teams advanced to the finals of their respective draw.
South Carolina got the weekend going with doubles play Friday morning. Hadley Berg and Paige Cline, ranked No. 7 in the ITA preseason doubles rankings, went 2-0 en route to taking down opponents from Maryland and Old Dominion. The combination of Silvia Chinellato and Rachel Rohrabacher also went 2-0 as they toppled teams from Utah and Marshall. Both teams will play in the final for their respective draw on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. Alison Mills and Hannah Templeton finished 0-2 on the day.
In singles, the Gamecocks got strong performances from Berg, Chinellato, Cline, Rohrabacher and Brigit Folland as they each picked up a victory. In all, Carolina was able to walk away from day one with five out of seven wins on the singles side of things, in addition to having a doubles team in the finals in two of the three draws.
