Gamecocks Alumni Set for PGA TOUR's FedEx St. Jude Classic
June 8, 2016
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — University of South Carolina Men’s Golf alumni Matt NeSmith and Wesley Bryan will make their professional PGA TOUR debuts this week at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. Both NeSmith and Bryan earned sponsor’s exemptions to the tournament, which runs June 9-12 at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tenn.
Bryan is playing in his first-ever PGA TOUR event after making a name for himself already on the Web.com Tour this season. The Chapin, S.C., native has already won twice on the Web.com Tour this year and leads the money list with $280,692 earned this season. Bryan has already assured himself of 2017 PGA TOUR status, which goes to the top 25 finishers on the 2016 Web.com Tour money list.
NeSmith made his professional debut last week at the Mackenzie Tour’s Bayview Place Island Savings Open in Victoria, B.C. He has already played three PGA TOUR events as an amateur, including the 2013 FedEx St. Jude Classic.
The past two weeks have been a whirlwind for NeSmith. He led the Gamecocks into the match play portion of the NCAA Championship for the first time in program history and earned PING First Team All-America status, a program first.
Golf Channel will provide live television coverage of the FedEx St. Jude Classic from 3:30-6:30 p.m. ET Thursday and Friday and 1:00-2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday and Sunday. CBS will pick up coverage on Saturday and Sunday beginning at 3 p.m. each day.
