COLUMBIA, S.C. — Freshman right-hander Braden Webb and sophomore right-hander Clarke Schmidt have earned NCBWA All-America honors, as announced on Wednesday. Webb was a second-team selection with Schmidt named to the third-team.

Webb was just named 2016 Freshman Pitcher of the Year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) yesterday. Webb, who was selected in the 3rd round of the 2016 MLB Draft as the 82nd overall selection by the Milwaukee Brewers last week, finished the year 10-6 with a 3.09 ERA. Webb became the 31st pitcher in school history to reach 10 or more wins with a victory in the 4-2 win over Alabama on May 20. He allowed 43 runs, 35 earned, on 80 hits in 102.0 innings. He struck out 128 to 48 walks with opponents batting .216 against him.

This is Schmidt’s second All-America honor as he also picked up third-team honors from Collegiate Baseball. Schmidt went 9-5 with a 3.40 ERA. He allowed 50 runs, 42 earned, on 107 hits in 111.0 innings pitched. He struck out 129 batters to 27 walks with opponents hitting .248 against him. He was also a second-team All-SEC honoree.
