South Carolina MLB Draft Recap

COLUMBIA, S.C. ââ’¬” South Carolina had seven players selected in the 2016 MLB Draft including four players in the first 10 rounds. The Gamecocks have had at least one player drafted each year since the 1981 season.

Freshman right-hander Braden Webb was picked in the third round by the Milwaukee Brewers as the 82nd overall selection. Junior outfielder Dom Thompson-Williams was the next choice as he went in the fifth round as the No. 158 overall pick by the New York Yankees. Senior infielder Marcus Mooney went in the 10th round at No. 289 to the Atlanta Braves with junior outfielder Gene Cone also a 10th round pick at No. 310 with the New York Mets. Junior right-hander Taylor Widener went in the 12th round by the New York Yankees with junior right-hander Wil Crowe selected in the 21st round by the Cleveland Indians and junior right-hander Matt Vogel in the 25th round by the Tampa Bay Rays.
