COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina men’s tennis sophomore Harrison O’Keefe has been named the SEC Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday. The SEC weekly honor is the first of the season for the 55th-ranked Gamecocks and comes after O’Keefe helped Carolina to a pair of victories over No. 39 Georgia Tech and The Citadel last Saturday.
The Salem, Va., native put together a 2-0 weekend in singles play. His 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 3 against the Yellow Jackets’ Michael Kay helped South Carolina erase a 2-0 deficit on its way to a 5-2 win. He went on to post a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 against The Citadel to help the Gamecocks earn their second sweep of the season. He added a 1-1 record in doubles alongside teammate Sam Swank, including a 6-0 performance against the Citadel.
O’Keefe is 17-6 this season in singles, including 4-2 in dual matches. He also boasts a 4-2 doubles record this spring.
The Gamecocks travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., Friday for a matchup with No. 10 Wake Forest before heading to Raleigh, N.C., to take on No. 32 NC State and Bryant.
