COLUMBIA, S.C. – Gamecock sophomore Victoria Williams garnered selection on the 2015 Capital One Academic All-District 4 Softball Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Williams ranks second in batting average, doubles and RBI for the 37-19 Gamecocks. Her bases-loaded double sent South Carolina to a 6-3 win over No. 22/25 Texas A&M in the SEC Tournament first round on Wednesday. Williams made the team as a designated player, spending her year split between there and right field. She moves onto the national ballot, with the results of that vote being released on May 29.

An elementary education major, Williams is the 14th Gamecock honoree in the SEC era (since 1997) and the first since current Gamecock volunteer assistant Kaela Jackson made the team in 2012. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be in a sophomore or better both athletically and academically, be in their second year on campus and have a 3.30 cumulative GPA or higher.

Auburn was the only program to have two honorees in District 4, with both Kasey Cooper and Tiffany Howard making the team.

South Carolina takes on No. 2/2 Florida at 4 p.m. EDT today in the quarterfinals of the 2015 SEC Softball Tournament. The SEC Network will show the action from Tiger Park in Baton Rouge, La.
