Head Coach Holbrook
Opening Statement
“We feel very fortunate to beat a really good Wofford team, who I think, if I am correct in saying this, broke their school record in wins in last night’s win against Clemson. Obviously, we came out of the gates pretty good, had five runs in the first three innings. We didn’t really do much offensively after that. We were kind of lucky to hold on. I think the biggest point in the game was they had runners at second and third with nobody out and after a botched pickoff play, Reagan (got the) next two and Murray came in and got the third out. That was a big point in the game there. We made it hold up, I thought Brandon (Murray) was very good and I thought Reed (Scott) was terrific. That’s several good appearances in a row for Reed (Scott). He’s been much more consistent then he was earlier in the year. Reagan got us off to a decent start, he kept them at bay and pitched a little bit and scattered some hits, but outside of giving up two runs he kept them off the board for the most part. It’s a good win for us considering what we have been through, especially against a really good Wofford team who is having a great year.”

On the performance
“I’m glad that we won. I thought we pitched extremely well and that gave us a chance, which gave us an opportunity to win. I still would like our guys to play with a little bit more juice and intensity, and compete a little bit more. Eight strikeouts tonight against two walks, that’s not good from an offensive standpoint. When you try to measure and gauge competitive at bats, I think we have to do better.”

On going on the road to Texas A&M this weekend
“They are one of the best teams in the country. Outside of LSU, maybe the most consistent baseball team in the country all year and they are playing at home which they are playful at home. We are going to have to play our best baseball of the year and that doesn’t guarantee us that we are going to win if we do that. Obviously, we are playing a special team, very physical, big and strong. They’ve had a great year, very offensive, they’ve pitched it very well. I don’t know if they have a weakness. We are going to have to play our best baseball of the year to be competitive and have a chance. That’s just the truth of the matter.”

Freshman Designated Hitter Alex Destino
On getting the win over Wofford tonight…
“It was great. It was good to see the bats coming alive today in the early part of the game. It was good to see the pitchers back out there, confident against a real good team in Wofford. It was good to see and it was a good feeling. Having this win under our belt against a good team and we’re heading to (Texas) A&M, we’ve got to play good ball down there and this was a step in the right direction.”

On how his freshman season has gone…
“It’s been awesome. Actually, with Brandon (Murray) being my roommate, I’ve gotten to see how he carries himself off the field and it’s great because he’s a competitor. It’s been a lot of fun getting to live with all of the freshman, seeing how they all approach the game and just picking their brains about hitting, pitching and everything. It’s been a very enjoyable process. We may have not won as many games as we would’ve liked this year, but I love the team I’m surrounded with. All the older guys and younger guys. We just have a good time coming to the park.”

On going into a big series against Texas A&M this weekend…
“Confidence is going to be the key and I feel like this win was a great stepping stone for us. Getting that win under our belt and we’re all aware of what they’re doing down at A&M. We’re exciting to get down there and it’s going to be a great atmosphere. I have a good feeling about the type of ball we’re going to play when we get down there.”

Freshman Right-Handed Pitcher Brandon Murray
On his performance tonight…
“I just wanted to go their and get ahead, establish strikes early and get ahead of hitters. I didn’t want to go out there and pitch from hitters. I wanted to keep it simple, give us a chance to stay in the game and pull off the victory.”

On having to face Wofford after Wofford came off of a win versus Clemson last night…
“Obviously, they’re a very well hitting team and they like to run a little bit. We just wanted to keep it under control in all aspects of the game. Try to stay consistent at the plate, play good defense and pitch well. When everything is clicking all cylinders, it’s going to make it a little easier to pull off a win. We knew what they did and we were prepared.”
