WILMINGTON, N.C. – South Carolina (25-12) captured a 15-10 win on Tuesday night at UNC Wilmington (14-14) behind big offensive games from junior Jordan Bizzell and sophomore Victoria Williams.
Williams posted her first career four-hit game, driving in five runs combined among her four singles. Bizzell scored four times, going 1-for-2 with a home run, two walks and a hit by pitch.
South Carolina scored in six of the seven innings, scoring twice in the first, once in the fourth and three in the second, fifth, sixth and seventh. Eleven Gamecocks collected hits, with Williams and redshirt sophomore Lauren Masters the only ones collecting multiple hits. Masters went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Six Seahawks collected two hits, with four of those driving in two runs. Claudia Spinella and Abby Harris both had two hits, two runs and two RBI, with Haris doubling and Spinella hitting a triple and a home run. UNC Wilmington scored a run in both the third and fourth, two in the fifth and three each in the sixth and seventh. The Seahawks had the bases loaded in the seventh when Gamecock redshirt senior Julie Sarratt recorded her fifth strikeout of the game to end the affair after three hours and five minutes.
Sarratt (13-7) picked up her fourth-consecutive win, tossing 6.2 innings and 159 pitches. She walked four and gave up 12 hits and eight earned runs. Seahawk starter Peyton Jordan (4-3) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on five hits in two innings.
Game Changer:
The Gamecocks jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never trailed in the contest.
Key Stat:
South Carolina scored 15 runs and recorded 15 hits for the first time since the opening weekend of the year at East Carolina.
Notables:
• Bizzell becomes the first Gamecock to score four runs this year, while she also stole two bases.
• In addition to the career-high four hits, Williams’ five RBI also is a career best.
• A total of 21 Gamecocks appeared in the game. Of the 17 who made a plate appearance, 16 reached base safely.
• Bizzell’s home run stands as her fifth of the year.
• Four different Gamecocks were hit by a pitch.
• Junior left fielder Alaynie Page went 1-for-4, extending her hitting streak to eight games. She scored three times.
