Athen, GA – The 37th ranked University of South Carolina women’s tennis team dropped to 12-7 overall and to 5-4 in the SEC with a 7-0 loss to 6th ranked Georgia Friday in Athens. The loss was the second consecutive loss for the Gamecocks in the conference and to a nationally rank opponent. The win improved the Bulldogs to 14-1 overall and 8-0 in the SEC.
In doubles, USC was swept by the Bulldogs double teams. At number one doubles, the third ranked team of Lori Grey and Agata Cioroch defeated Jodi Kenoyer and Kathy Boyanovich 9-8(5). Danielle Wiggins and Magda Wojdylo dropped their match at number two doubles to Tina Hojnik and Evegenia Subbotina 9-7 while Audrey George and Catherine Brown dropped their match 8-2 to Douglas Wink and Alexandra Smith.
In singles, Agata Cioroch, the top ranked player in the nation defeated Kathy Boyanovich in straight sets 6-0, 6-2. Lori Grey defeated Wojdylo at number four to extend Georgia’s lead to 3-0 and Tina Hojnik clinched the win for the Bulldogs when she defeated Wiggins 6-1,6-1 at number three.
