COLUMBIA, S.C. – Lightning and rain delayed the first game of the South Carolina-Arkansas softball series in the bottom of the second inning. Officials decided to suspend the game and resume it at 2 p.m. EDT on Saturday at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field.

Lightning caused the stoppage at 6:33 p.m., moments after the Gamecocks scored the first run of the game on senior Sarah Mooney’s fielder’s choice. Rain came 30 minutes later, with more set to move through the Columbia area later this evening. Officials discussed the scenarios and decided to suspend for the night instead of trying to find windows to finish the game.

With the resumption of game one coming at 2 p.m., the planned fan fest in the Athletics Village and on-field batting practice for game two has been cancelled. Also, the end of game one will not be shown on SEC Network + on Watch ESPN. Game two will be broadcast at 5 p.m. EDT on SEC Network +, with Brad Muller and Megan Matthews Buning on the call.
