South Carolina-Florida Game Notes 
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina (23-11, 6-6 SEC) travels to Gainesville, Fla. for a three-game SEC series with Florida (25-9, 6-6 SEC). Friday’s game is on SEC Network + with first pitch set for 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday’s contests will be televised on the SEC Network. Saturday is scheduled for 6 p.m. with Sunday’s game at Noon. All three games can be heard on the Gamecock IMG Network including flagship station, 107.5 FM, “The Game.”

A LOOK BACK
South Carolina went 2-2 last week with wins at The Citadel and Mississippi State. The Gamecocks are 23-11 with a 6-6 conference mark. The Gamecocks are tied for third in the SEC Eastern Division and fifth in the league overall.
THE FLORIDA SERIES
South Carolina leads the all-time series history 43-38. Florida won two of three games last year in Columbia and one game at the SEC Tournament in Hoover. South Carolina last won the regular season series and last won in Gainesville in 2011.
K-MART
Senior first baseman Kyle Martin continues to perform at a high level. Martin is one of 60 players in the country to be named to USA Baseball’s Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List.
Martin is hitting .363 (45-for-124) with six homers, nine doubles, 30 runs scored and 35 RBI. He has 21 walks to 12 strikeouts with a .454 on-base percentage and a .597 slugging percentage. Martin is fifth in the SEC in RBI, tied for seventh in total bases, tied for eighth in homers, tied for 11th in slugging percentage, tied for 12th in batting average and 14th in on-base percentage. Martin is hitting .422 in SEC games with a .733 slugging percentage and a .526 on-base percentage in 12 league games. His 14 RBI in SEC game as well as his slugging percentage and on-base percentage is best in the SEC in SEC games.
Martin elected to return for his final season after being selected in the 20th round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Martin was Carolina’s leading hitter last year batting .336 (82-for-244) with 35 runs scored, 11 doubles, five homers and 38 RBI, a .389 on-base percentage and a .443 slugging percentage. He started all 62 games at first base.
Martin averaged 1.32 hits per game last year, tied for highest among SEC returning leaders. His .336 average is second-highest among returning SEC players as well.
MURRAY IN RELIEF
Freshman right-hander Brandon Murray picked up his fourth win of the year and is now 4-0 on the season with three wins in SEC play as he pitched 5.2 innings of relief allowing just two runs on four hits in the 13-7 victory at Mississippi State. Murray’s 5-2 innings marked the longest outing of his Gamecock career. For the season, Murray is 4-0 with a 1.66 ERA in 11 relief appearances with a save. He has 11 strikeouts to four walks and opponents batting .187 against him.
MAX IT OUT
Junior infielder Max Schrock had a career day for the Gamecocks going 5-for-6 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored in the 13-7 win at Mississippi State. Schrock also was busy in the field with eight assists, which is a season-high by a Gamecock player in a game this year as well. Schrock hit .571 for the series.
He has raised his season batting average to .293 (36-for-123) with four homers, seven doubles, 27 RBI and 29 runs scored. He has 25 walks to 11 strikeouts with a .404 on-base percentage and a. 463 slugging mark. Schrock is hitting .308 (16-for-52) in league games with 13 RBI as well.
Schrock has driven in 13 runs in conference play, that is tied for second-highest in the SEC.
CONE LEADS IT OFF
Sophomore outfielder Gene Cone scored four runs in the 13-7 win at Mississippi State on Saturday. The four runs is an individual high by a Gamecock player in a game this season. He followed that up going 3-for-3 with three RBI in win over Appalachian State.
Cone is hitting .309 (38-for-123) for the year with a .444 on-base percentage and a team-high 32 runs scored on the year. Cone has started all 34 games in center field for the Gamecocks.
Cone tied a school record for putouts by an outfielder in a game with nine on March 24 at Coastal Carolina.
IN THE CROWE’S NEST
Sophomore right-hander Wil Crowe is among league leaders in strikeouts with 56 in 47.0 innings, that is tied for fourth highest in the conference. Crowe is 3-3 with a 4.02 ERA. His 47.0 innings are tied for 14th highest in the conference.
Crowe earned SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week honors as announced by the league office on March 16 after a win vs. Kentucky. Crowe was phenomenal allowing just one run, unearned, on one hit with three walks and 10 strikeouts in seven innings of work in the 10-1 victory vs. Kentucky. His 10 strikeouts tied a career-high. Crowe allowed just a single in the first inning to the Wildcats, who came into Columbia this weekend riding an 11-game winning streak and hitting .312 at the plate.
Crowe is the first Gamecock this season to earn a conference weekly honor. The league office twice recognized him in 2014, once as SEC Pitcher of the Week and once as SEC Freshman of the Week.
CALDWELL A HIT
Senior outfielder Elliott Caldwell leads the Gamecocks at the plate with a .375 average (42-for-112) with 22 runs scored and 21 RBI. He has a .471 on-base percentage and a .545 slugging mark. Caldwell is tied for the SEC lead with five triples as well and leads the Gamecocks with 10 stolen bases. Caldwell owns a team-high 14 multi-hit games.
Caldwell hit .500 (6-for-12) in the Mississippi State series with two runs scored and three RBI. Caldwell was 2-for-4 with two RBI in the 13-7 win vs. the Bulldogs. He also had two triples on the week and leads the Gamecocks with four for the season, tied for third highest in the conference.
Caldwell hit .357 (5-for-14) in the Missouri series with a pair of RBI. He was 2-for-5 with a RBI on Saturday and on Sunday vs. the Tigers. Caldwell also made ESPN’s SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays on Saturday with the No. 8 play of the day with a diving catch in left field.
Caldwell hit .636 (7-for-11) in the Kentucky series with four runs scored, a triple, two homers and four RBI. Caldwell went 2-for-4 in the 10-1 win, followed that up going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a two-run homer in the 4-3 victory over the Wildcats and went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI including a game-tying homer in the bottom of the ninth inning in Sunday’s 6-4 10-inning win. Caldwell’s homer on Saturday was the first of his career in a Gamecock uniform.
JACK OF ALL TRADES
Junior left-hander Jack Wynkoop suffered a loss despite keeping the Gamecocks in it on Friday in a 7-5 loss at Mississippi State. Wynkoop allowed seven runs, one earned, on 14 hits in 6.1 innings with a walk and four strikeouts. For the season, Wynkoop is 4-3 with a 2.19 ERA in 53.1 innings with seven walks and 45 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting .259 against him. Wynkoop ranks fourth in the SEC in innings pitched, sixth in earned run average and tied for 12th in strikeouts.
Wynkoop earned the Tom Price Award as Gamecock MVP of the Clemson series. Wynkoop worked six-plus innings and allowed just one run in the 4-1 victory vs. the Tigers.
Wynkoop is in the weekend rotation for a third straight year. He has made 34 starts in his career, that is second-highest among all returning SEC pitchers.
DC DELIVERS
Junior infielder DC Arendas drove in a season-high three runs in the 13-7 win at Mississippi State. Arendas also hit his first homer in Friday’s 7-5 loss. For the season he is batting .247 (18-for-73) with a .431 on-base percentage.
Arendas tied a school record with two sacrifice flies in Tuesday’s 11-1 win over Appalachian State.
ON THE MOUND
For the season, South Carolina pitchers own a team ERA of 2.99. The Gamecocks have allowed 130 runs, 102 earned, on 266 hits in 307.0 innings with 126 walks to 292 strikeouts. Opponents are batting .235 against the Gamecocks. South Carolina’s ERA ranks third-best in the SEC with batters struck out third-best as well.
AT THE PLATE & ON THE FIELD
South Carolina is hitting .266 (298-for-1119) as a team with 202 runs scored, a .363 on-base percentage and a .379 slugging mark. The Gamecocks are fielding .970 for the year.

A CLOSER LOOK AT WIDENER
Sophomore right-hander Taylor Widener pitched a scoreless ninth inning for a save in the 4-2 win over The Citadel. Widener is 1-2 with a 3.06 ERA in 17.2 innings with 27 strikeouts to 10 walks. His eight saves is second-best in the SEC.
MINCEY MAKES HIS MARK
Senior right-hander Cody Mincey pitched a career-high four scoreless innings of relief and struck out a career-high seven batters to earn a win in the 2-0 victory at The Citadel last Tuesday. Mincey has 15 strikeouts in 14.0 innings pitched with nine relief appearances. Opponents are hitting .217 against him.
VINNY
Junior left-hander Vince Fiori leads the Gamecocks with 17 relief appearances on the year. Fiori is 3-0 with a 1.69 ERA in 21.1 innings with 23 strikeouts to 14 walks. Opponents are hitting .169 against him.
KEY HITS FROM KOCH
Sophomore catcher Logan Koch went 2-for-3 vs. Mississippi State in the 7-5 loss and followed that up with a double and a run scored in the 13-7 win at MSU. Koch hit a game-winning two-run homer in Friday’s 2-0 win over Miami and followed that up with a two-run single with the bases loaded in a 7-0 win. Koch hit .375 (3-for-8) in the Miami series.
TAYLOR WITH CAREER DAY
Freshman catcher Hunter Taylor hit his first career homer and added a sacrifice fly to tie a career-high with two RBI in Sunday’s 8-5 win over Georgia. Taylor was 3-for-6 (.500) in the Georgia series with a run scored as well. He is hitting .250 (12-for-48) with six runs scored and five RBI in 15 starts.
GORE IN A GROOVE
Sophomore infielder Jordan Gore has raised his batting average to .295 (33-for-112) on the year and a .362 on-base percentage. Gore has 16 RBI to go along with 21 runs scored. Gore had a three-run single in Tuesday’s 4-2 win over The Citadel
GREAT SCOTT
Sophomore right-hander Reed Scott earned a win after five scoreless innings in the 11-1 victory vs. Appalachian State.
Scott tied a career-high with seven innings pitched in a 4-3 loss vs. Georgia. He allowed four runs, two earned, on seven hits with three walks and six strikeouts.
Scott is 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in 32.0 innings with 16 walks to 23 strikeouts.
STOKES HAS SUCCESS
Freshman infielder Madison Stokes was 1-for-2 with a RBI in the 2-0 win at The Citadel and 2-for-5 with a run scored in the 13-7 win at Mississippi State.
PRESTON WITH PRECISION
Junior right-hander Preston Johnson recorded a strikeout for all six outs he tallied in Saturday’s loss to Georgia. Johnson is 2-0 with a 4.09 ERA and 13 strikeouts to just two walks in 11.0 innings of work. Opponents are hitting .244 against him.
Johnson retired all 11 batters he faced for 3.2 perfect innings with five strikeouts and earned his first career win in his first career appearance in the 11-3 victory over High Point. He followed that up with 2.1 innings of work to earn his second win of the year in a 13-3 victory over Penn State.
SCHMIDT CONTRIBUTES
Freshman right-hander Clarke Schmidt set down 10 consecutive batters at one point and struck out a career-high eight batters in five-plus innings of work in a 8-5 win over Georgia. Schmidt is 2-0 with a 3.82 ERA in 11 appearances with six starts. He has 37 strikeouts in 33.0 innings.
MOONEY IN THE MIDDLE
Junior infielder Marcus Mooney had a two-run double and scored two runs in the 13-7 win at Mississippi State. It was Mooney’s first multi-RBI game of the year. Mooney has four doubles on the year and scored 14 runs as well.
