The 37th ranked University of South Carolina women’s tennis team will host Auburn and 20th ranked Alabama this weekend to close out the 2003 season at home with three remaining matches on the road. The Gamecocks head into this weekend’s matches taking four of their last five matches to improve their record to 11-5 overall and 4-2 in the SEC.
The match tomorrow against Auburn is scheduled to start at 2 pm at the Maxcy Gregg Tennis Facility. Auburn comes into the match with a 9-5 record overall and a 2-4 mark in conference play. South Carolina leads the series with Auburn 15-1. The Gamecocks have won the past 11 since Auburn took a 5-3 decision on March 9th, 1993.
Sunday’s match against Alabama is schedule for 2 pm as well. Alabama enters the match with a 14-3 record overall and a 5-1 mark in SEC play. Alabama is leading the West by two matches over Auburn. Alabama rolls into town on Sunday after facing 5th ranked Florida on Friday in Gainesville.
South Carolina leads the series with Alabama 8-4. South Carolina has won the last five including a 4-3 USC victory last year in Tuscaloosa. Alabama’s last win came on March 12th, 1997 when the Tide took a 5-3 decision.
South Carolina has won their last 18 matches against SEC West foes heading into this weekend.
Sunday’s match is also Senior Day as the Gamecocks honor three seniors. Admission for all Carolina tennis matches is free.
