Track and Field Announces 2014-15 Schedule

COLUMBIA, S.C. – There is just under a month to go until the start of the 2014-15 track and field season begins, as the team’s indoor and outdoor scheduled was unveiled Thursday afternoon. The team will be road warriors this season, hosting just a pair of events in the indoor season as construction continues on its new facilities.
The season begins Jan. 10, with the Gamecocks traveling upstate for the Orange and Purple Classic, hosted by Clemson. The following weekend they will compete in the two-day Virginia Tech Invite, the first of two meets hosted by the Hokies. The team will return to Blacksburg on Feb. 20.
At the end of the month, the team will compete in the Armory Track Invitational in New York City. The two-day event features the top college teams in the country as well as members of the Nike Oregon Project. February opens with the team’s first home event, the USC Open on Feb. 7.
It will spend the following two weekends at the Tyson Invitational (Feb. 13-14) and Virginia Tech Challenge (Feb. 20-21). The team’s other home event will run concurrently with the Virginia Tech Challenge, with a one-day Gamecock Invitational on Feb. 21. That will close out the indoor regular season. The conference championships will be hosted by the University of Kentucky and runs Feb. 27-28. The national indoor championships will be March 13-14, hosted by the University of Arkansas.
The outdoor season begins March 19, with a three-day Shamrock Invitational to be held in Myrtle Beach. The team will split up at the end of the month, with the multis traveling to the Texas Relays while others will participate in the Crimson Tide Invitational.
In a final warm-up to prepare for the conference championships, the team will again compete in the Penn Relays, one of the most prestigious regular-season meets in the country. The three-day event, starting April 23, will close the outdoor regular season.
Mississippi State will be the host for the conference meet, to be held starting May 14. Following that will be the NCAA East Region championships in Jacksonville, Fla. (May 29-30) to try and earn the right to make it to nationals (June 10-13).
