COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina head coach Beverly Smith released her 2014 schedule today, which includes a home slate of 32 regular-season games along with the previously-announced hosting of the 2014 SEC Tournament.

With eight weekends of home competition including the 2014 SEC Tournament, Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field will host approximately 60 percent of the Gamecocks’ games in its first full year of operation. South Carolina played only 17 home games last year, the lowest total at the site since 1996, the final year in the second configuration of Lady Gamecock Field on the same plot of land the stadium sits now.

“Gamecock fans will have so much to cheer about in 2014; in particular, lots of home games!” said Smith. “We have a great field of teams coming to the two tournaments we host in February as well as excellent mid-week competition. Of course, the SEC schedule is as challenging as ever. I am looking forward to having Texas A&M, Ole Miss, LSU and Auburn on our home turf. I am especially excited about hosting the 2014 SEC Tournament. It is a great opportunity to showcase the new stadium, my special 2014 team, and our great fan base in front of a national TV audience.”

In addition to the SEC Tournament, South Carolina will host two teams (Texas A&M on March 14-16 and LSU on April 18-20) that made last year’s NCAA Tournament in conference play as well as games against tournament participants Minnesota and Longwood. Each of the four SEC road trips will pit the Gamecocks against an NCAA Tournament team, starting with 2012 NCAA champion Alabama (March 7-9) and 2013 NCAA runner-up Tennessee (March 21-23). South Carolina also plays at Georgia and Arkansas in SEC play.

The Gamecocks open the season at home on Feb. 7-9 with the Carolina Classic, with Iowa, Ohio, Presbyterian and UNC Greensboro coming to Columbia. Two former assistants at South Carolina return for that event, with Janelle Breneman leading the UNC Greensboro Spartans and Adrianna Baggetta an assistant at Iowa. The Gamecock Invitational takes place on Feb. 21-23, with Gardner-Webb, Boston University, Michigan State and UNC Wilmington providing the competition. Georgetown will also be a part of the Gamecock Invitational.

The non-conference road trips include tournaments at Florida Atlantic (Feb. 14-16) and Arizona State (Feb. 27-March 1). In Tempe, Ariz., South Carolina takes on two NCAA Tournament squads in the host Sun Devils and Minnesota. South Carolina also plays its lone road, midweek non-conference games on Wed., Feb. 12 at Charlotte.

The home midweek games are mostly on Tuesdays against the likes of Western Carolina (Feb. 25 DH), Charleston Southern (March 4), Eastern Kentucky (March 11), Minnesota (Wed., March 19), Furman (March 25 DH), Presbyterian (April 1), Campbell (April 8) and Winthrop (April 15). Two games against the Longwood Lancers come on April 25-26 in Columbia. Senior weekend is set for May 2-4 against Auburn.

Other SEC matchups include a home series against Mississippi (March 28-30) and the aforementioned trips to Georgia (April 4-6) and Arkansas (April 11-13). The SEC Softball Tournament, set for May 7-10, features single-elimination games with the top-10 teams in one of the nation’s premier conferences.
