Columbia, S.C. – The 23rd ranked University of South Carolina women’s tennis team blew past the Wolfpack of NC State 6-1 on Saturday at the USC indoor facility. The win was the 11th straight against the Wolfpack. NC State’s win was the first ever meeting between the two schools back in 1978. The 6-1 USC victory improved the Gamecocks to 3-1 on the season while the Wolfpack dropped to 2-2.
The Gamecocks swept the doubles matches easily. Kathy Boyanovich and Magda Wojdylo defeated Kristen Lam and Myrna Bawono 8-1 in the number one doubles match. Catherine Brown and Jodi Kenoyer won 8-4 over Jennifer Jasawalla and Virginia Romero at the number two seed while Justine Walsh and Danielle Wiggins were victorious in the flight three doubles 8-6 over Loni Worsley and Danielle Stadelmann.
In singles, Boyanovich took flight one easily over Bawono 6-0, 6-2. At the number two seed, Kenoyer fought back after trailing 3-0 to win the first set 7-6(8). Kenoyer would once again start out slow in the second set but would come out on top as she defeated Romero 6-4 in the second set to take the flight two point. Lam of NC State would earn the Wolfpack their only victory on the day as she defeated Wiggins 6-4,7-6 in the number three singles battle. Wojdylo took flight four 6-3,6-4 from Worsley while Brown defeated Stadelmann 6-2,6-4 at the number five matchup. Walsh took the final dual point from Jassawalla 6-2,6-2 to give the Gamecocks a 6-1 victory over the Wolfpack.
South Carolina plays host to Middle Tennessee on Sunday at 1pm.
