Columbia, S.C. – The 24th ranked South Carolina Gamecocks cruised to a 7-0 win over Mississippi State in the SEC opener on Friday afternoon at the Maxcy Gregg Tennis courts. The Gamecocks improved to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the SEC while the Bulldogs dropped to 6-4 and 0-1 in conference play.

The Gamecocks took control early in the match by taking two of the three double matches. Kathy Boyanovich and Magda Wojdylo defeated Yumi Ueda and Elaine Fagan 8-0 in the number one doubles match-up. On court two, Jodi Kenoyer and Catherine Brown came back to defeat Magdi Rekasi and Annastasia Kugakolova 8-6. Mississippi State’s Marcelle Hirt and Justyna Switala took the flight three doubles 9-7 over Justine Walsh and Danielle Wiggins.

In singles, it was all Gamecocks. South Carolina swept all six single matches to clinch a 7-0 victory in the 2003 SEC opener. South Carolina returns to Maxcy Gregg on Sunday to play the Rebels of Mississippi at 1 pm.
