BATON ROUGE, La. – South Carolina (17-10, 0-4 SEC) dropped the Friday night meeting at Tiger Park to No. 13/12 LSU (26-5, 6-1 SEC) by a 4-0 score.

The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the fourth on Rikki Alcaraz’s two-run homer, a blast out to center. LSU doubled the lead in the fifth when Jacee Blades landed a two-out, two-RBI single in center, scoring Tammy Wray and Simone Heyward after Wray doubled and Heyward singled around an out.

South Carolina left five runners on base, four in the first three innings, but all its runners came with two outs. LSU’s Rachele Fico (16-5) scattered three hits and two walks in the shutout win, striking out seven. Gamecock redshirt senior Audrey Broyles (6-4) took the loss, allowing four earned runs on seven hits while fanning one.

Blades and Heyward both had two hits for the Tigers, while Gamecock junior second baseman Dana Hathorn went 2-for-3. Senior catcher Shelby Gonzales had the other hit for South Carolina.

The two teams meet again on Saturday at 4 p.m. EDT, with Cox Sports Television showing the game live in its markets.
