ROCKY FACE, Ga. — The South Carolina men’s golf team shot a final-round 297 (+9) on Sunday afternoon at The Farm Golf Club to finish in 10th place at the Carpet Capital Collegiate.
The Gamecocks wrapped up the weekend with a three-round total of 888 (+24).
Continuing his solid play from the first two rounds, sophomore Will Starke recorded his second career top-five finish as he fired a 2-under 70 to conclude the tournament in a tie for fifth with a total of 214 (-2). A native of Chapin, S.C., Starke carded a team-best seven birdies to go with three bogeys and a double bogey. After shooting 1-over 37 on the front side, he bogeyed the 10th hole to start the back nine before playing the final eight holes at 4-under.
Junior Caleb Sturgeon, who posted a 76 (+4) on Sunday, was the next Gamecock on the leaderboard as he concluded the tournament in a tie for 41st with a total of 224 (+8). He recorded a pair of birdies, three bogeys and a triple bogey on the afternoon.
Sophomore Matt NeSmith turned in a 78 (+6) on Sunday to tie for 45th with a total of 225 (+9), while junior Will Murphy tied for 48th with a total of 226 (+10) after shooting a final-round 74 (+2). Rounding out the lineup, junior Blaine Woodruff shot a 77 (+5) to tie for 62nd with a total of 230 (+14).
Fourth-ranked Georgia Tech won the tournament title with a total of 850 (-14), finishing six shots ahead of second-place Georgia (856).
Georgia Tech’s Ollie Schniederjans and North Carolina’s Bailey Patrick shared medalist honors after both finishing with a total of 9-under 207.
The Gamecocks will return to action Sept. 22-24 as they will host the Rees Jones Invitational at Haig Point Golf Club in Daufuskie Island, S.C.
