DES MOINES, Iowa – A trio of Gamecock rising sophomores continued a solid outing at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the third of the national event’s five days at Drake Stadium.
After advancing to the women’s junior 800-meter run final yesterday with a lifetime-best 2:10.30, Lisa Zimmer clocked in at 2:12.19 in the event final to finish seventh overall.
Alexis Murphy ran in the junior women’s 200-meters on Friday. The rising sophomore turned in a 24.17 to finish seventh overall in the event.
NCAA qualifier and two-time All-American Tyler Brockington moved on to an event final as well as she won her heat in the women’s junior 400-meter hurdles. The Gamecock clocked in at 59.40 to advance to tomorrow’s final with the fifth-fastest preliminary time. Brockington runs tomorrow at 2:38 p.m. ET for the championship.
The USA Outdoor Track & Field Senior Championships are also being held at Drake Stadium this week with the event serving as qualification for the 14th IAAF World Outdoor Championships in Moscow, Russia, Aug. 10-18, 2013. The top three finishers in each event at the USA Outdoor Championships move on to represent the US, provided they have reached the A standard.
South Carolina head coach Curtis Frye and assistant head coach Delethea Quarles were appointed as Team USA assistant coaches for IAAF World Championships and are in Iowa for Team USA duties in addition to overseeing the Gamecocks in the junior championships.
