South Carolina (33-23) takes on No. 4 national seed Texas in the winner’s bracket game on Saturday at 12 p.m. EDT. The Longhorn Network will televise the contest only, with no ESPN3 broadcast available.
The Gamecocks defeated Houston 6-4 to move into the winner’s bracket game, getting a six-RBI day from junior designated player Ashlyn Masters, including her first career grand slam, in the victory. Junior second baseman Dana Hathorn also had three hits in the win, while sophomore centerfielder Kristen Struett reached three times and scored twice like Hathorn.
Texas downed Army 5-0 in its first-round contest, getting a three-run homer from Mandy Ogle in the win. Blaire Luna allowed one hit in three innings before being pulled, presumably to rest for Saturday’s game. Kim Bruins picked up her 10th win of the year in the four-inning relief appearance.
The two teams tangled once before, with the Gamecocks winning that meeting in 1999 in the Fiesta Bowl Tournament in Tempe, Ariz.
