ATHENS, Ga. – A bevy of season and personal bests in three women’s field events opened the two-day Spec Towns Invitational for the South Carolina track and field teams Friday on the campus of the University of Georgia.

Junior Breanna Radford upped her personal best in the shot put for the second consecutive week to place second overall in the event, marking her second straight top two performance in the shot put. Radford threw 50’9 ½ (15.48m) to improve on last week’s mark of 50’5 ½ (15.38m). The Georgia native also placed 11th in the hammer throw at 153’1 (46.67m) to cap her two-event day.

Seniors Katie Vuckovich and Stacee Roberts both hit season bests in the shot put to place fifth and seventh, respectively. Vuckovich threw for 49’1 ¾ (14.98m), and Roberts threw 48’2 ½ (14.69m) to earn top 10 finishes. Roberts also placed 13th in the hammer throw at 148’0 (45.33m) while Vuckovich hit a personal best in the hammer throw at 141’3 (43.05m).

Junior Ceci Kryst got herself involved in the PR action with her performance in the triple jump. Kryst had a personal best mark of 38’2 ¼ (11.64m) to place seventh overall in the event.

Two men’s events were contested Friday afternoon in the triple jump and hammer throw. Dorian Johnson took fifth overall in the men’s triple jump at 46’6 ¼ (14.18m) as the only Gamecock man to compete in the horizontal jump.

Andrew Seay and Trey Suhrstedt competed in the men’s hammer throw and placed sixth and ninth. Seay had a best toss of 171’7 (52.30m), and Suhrstedt had a best mark of 135’9 (41.39m) to cap the day’s events for South Carolina.

A full day of competition is scheduled for Saturday beginning with Emily Laurence in the women’s javelin throw at 10 a.m.
