COLUMBIA, S.C. — Senior Anya Morgina from the No. 32 South Carolina women’s tennis team was named SEC Player of the Week on Wednesday.

Morgina posted an unbeaten record last week for the Gamecocks at No. 1 singles and doubles in helping them defeat Georgia State and Old Dominion. Versus Georgia State, Morgina teamed with Jaklin Alawi to clinch the doubles point before upending 34th-ranked Abigail Tere-Apisah to clinch the 4-3 win over the Panthers. Morgina also provided the clinching point for Carolina in its 7-0 victory over the Monarchs.

For the season, the No. 45-ranked Morgina is 16-6 in singles and 10-3 playing the No. 1 singles position. In doubles, she is 14-6 individually playing with three different partners and is 6-0 with Alawi. Morgina has been ranked as high as No. 20 this season in singles and her high in doubles was No. 45 in the fall with Dominika Kanakova. Morgina is currently rated No. 70 with Alawi.

Morgina and the Gamecocks return to SEC play this week taking on No. 19 Ole Miss on Friday in Oxford, Miss., and then host Mississippi State on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Carolina Tennis Center.
