Oklahoma City, Okla. – South Carolina senior captain Maggie Fortune and her American Quarter Horse, Fantastic Invitation, have qualified for the Amateur Horsemanship finals at the 2011 Bank of America Amateur and FedEx Open American Quarter Horse Association World Championship Show. Fortune competed for the Amateur Horsemanship world champion title at AQHA World Show.
Fantastic Invitation is owned by the Fortune family of Hartford, CT. Through five competitions this year, Fortune is 3-1-1 with one MVP. As a junior in 2010-2011, Fortune posted ten wins during the season while earning three MVP’s. She has a total of 28 career wins along with nine MVP awards. Fortune is a History major, and has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll during her freshman, sophomore, and junior years. She was named to the Fall 2010 President’s List as well the Spring 2011 President’s List, an honor for students that have a perfect 4.0 GPA.
The AQHA Bank of America Amateur and FedEx Open World Championship Show is the world’s largest, single-breed world championship horse show and the pinnacle event for American Quarter Horse owners and exhibitors around the world, who must qualify for the event by earning a predetermined number of points to compete in each of the 94 classes representing halter, English and western disciplines. The 3,572 entries at this year’s event represent competitors from 42 of the United States, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Italy, Mexico and Venezuela. The show is being held November 5-19 at the Oklahoma City State Fair Park.
