Columbia, S.C.-Six Gamecock netters head to the 2002 SEC Coaches Tournament in Atlanta, Georgia at the Peachtree City Racquet Club. Play begins November 8th at 8:00am and will conclude on Sunday, November 10th.
The SEC Coaches Tournament features four 16-player single draws and two draws of 16 doubles teams each. Consolation matches will be played as well. Bracket pairings will be released Thursday night.
The tournament will feature Ayako Suzuki, Danielle Wiggins, Jodi Kenoyer,Catherine Brown, Audrey George, and Magda Wojdylo from USC. These six players have had a solid fall.
Jodi Kenoyer, is 4-2 overall this fall winning her last four single matches. In doubles, Kenoyer, 5-6 overall in doubles, has teamed with Audrey George and Kathy Boyanovich. With George, Kenoyer is 2-1, and she is 3-5 with Boyanovich. Sophomore Audrey George is 3-3 in singles play.
Senior Catherine Brown last weekend went 3-1 at the Southern Intercollegiate Tournament to improve her record to 5-3. Brown finished third in her draw. Brown has teamed with Magda Wojdylo in doubles action. The duo have posted a 4-3 record this season. Wojdylo, 5-3, won her flight last weekend at the Southern Intercollegiate Tournament.
Junior Ayako Suzuki is tied for the lead in single wins this season with six. Suzuki, 6-3, has won three of her last four matches. Suzuki teams with Danielle Wiggins in doubles. The duo are off to a hot start in doubles play. The pair have posted an outstanding 7-1 record. The duo have won their flights at the Furman Fall Classic and at the Southern Intercollegiate Tournament.
Wiggins, a freshman from Jacksonville, Florida, is 6-2 on the early season. One of her two losses came against teammate Jodi Kenoyer in three sets while the other loss came against 39th ranked Sarah Witten of Kentucky at the South East Regional.
The conclusion of this tournament will wrap up fall play for the Gamecocks. The Gamecocks look to open up the season on January 29th at home against the College of Charleston.
