The University of South Carolina Board of Trustees today approved a contract amendment for athletics director Eric Hyman and a contract extension for associate head baseball coach Chad Holbrook. In addition, the board approved the contract of first-year head volleyball coach Scott Swanson.

“I appreciate the confidence that Dr. Pastides and the Board of Trustees have shown with this contract amendment,” said Hyman. “I am a very lucky person and have been blessed to work with some outstanding people. While we’ve made some progress as an athletics department, we still have a lot of work in front of us,” continued Hyman. “Our objectives remain the same – to be a difference-maker in the lives of our student-athletes, and for our fans and supporters to be proud of their athletics department.”

Holbrook, who signed a three-year contract in July 2010, received a two-year extension, which will expire after the 2015 campaign. In addition, his base salary was increased from $160,000 to $176,000.

“I want to thank Dr. Pastides, Eric Hyman and Coach (Ray) Tanner for everything they’ve done for me and the confidence they have in me,” said Holbrook. “It’s been a great three years in Columbia for me and my family and I look forward to helping the South Carolina baseball team continue to compete for championships for many years to come.”

Swanson, who took over the volleyball program in February, was given a five-year contract with a base salary of $100,000. The 11th head coach in Gamecock volleyball history, Swanson came to South Carolina after a successful stint as the associate head coach at the University of Minnesota, where he helped his team to five-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
