BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – South Carolina freshman Julie Sarratt earned SEC Softball Freshman of the Week honors, the league office announced today, after tossing a no-hitter in her collegiate debut.
The Gaffney, S.C., product struck out five while walking one in the 44th no-hitter in South Carolina history since 1983. The freshman helped her own cause at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. This came in the third game of the season, which matches the timing of the first recorded no-hitter at South Carolina by Darlene Lowery in 1983.
Sarratt became the 15th Gamecock to record a no-hitter since 1983. She’s the sixth SEC Freshman of the Week winner since the award’s inception in 2006, joining current teammates Laura Mendes and Hannah Milks on that list.
At Beckham Field on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m., the Gamecocks take on in-state rival Winthrop for the 49th time in history.
