The South Carolina women’s tennis team won 10 of their 11 matches to open up the Southern Intercollegiate Tournament. The Gamecocks went undefeated in singles play with a 6-0 record while recording a 4-1 mark in doubles play.

In the A-1 doubles draw, Catherine Brown and Magda Wojdylo won the opening round match against Donna Altenburger and Kasia Finkowski of Appalachian State 8-3 but lost the second round match to Melissa Day and Raynie Theis of West Virginia 8-5. The duo will compete on Sunday for third place.

Also in doubles, Danielle Wiggins and Ayako Suzuki advanced to the finals Sunday with wins over double teams from Coastal Carolina and Western Carolina. Jodi Kenoyer and Audrey George went 2-0 in their round robin contest.

In singles action, Jodi Kenoyer defeated Melissa Day easily 6-0, 6-1. Wiggins defeated Rachel Key of Presbyterian 6-2, 6-0. Gamecock senior Catherine Brown dominated the match against Ana Simanca of Winthrop 6-0, 6-0 while junior Ayako Suzuki defeated Amanda Floyd of PC 6-0, 6-0.

Saturday’s action will begin at 9:00am at both the Maxcy Gregg and Sam Daniel Tennis Centers on the USC Campus. All action Saturday will be singles play.
