EVANSTON, Ill. — Miljana Jocic and Anya Morgina from the South Carolina women’s tennis team secured a pair of singles titles at the Wildcat Invitational on Sunday in Evanston, Ill.
Jocic won her flight with a 6-3, 7-6(4) victory over Elisa Simonetti of Illinois-Chicago to run her record to 9-3 on the season. In the tournament’s top flight, Morgina upended Katarina Milinkovic from DePaul 6-2, 6-3 and improved to 10-3 this fall in the process.
Dijana Stojic finished the tournament strong by claiming third place in the top flight. She defeated Minnesota’s Natalia Pintusova 6-0, 4-6, 6-0 and upped her fall mark to 6-3.
The Gamecocks finished the weekend with a combined record of 17-5 in singles and doubles matches. Their record at the Wildcat Invitational now stands at 67-16 (.807) since 2008.
South Carolina takes next weekend off before returning for its final tournament of the fall at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C., over Oct. 21-25.
