STANFORD, Calif. – South Carolina remained in 14th place after two rounds at the Pac-10/SEC Challenge, following strong rounds by junior Katie Burnett and sophomore Amanda Strang on Saturday at the Stanford Golf Course. The Gamecocks shot 303 (+19) on the day to stand at 602 (+34) through 36 holes of play.

Burnett posted a 73 (+2) on Saturday, a one-shot improvement over her opening round. Her scoring game was solid throughout the day as she recorded four birdies on her front nine, making the turn at 2-under par after back-to-back birdies at 17 and 18. She would get to 3-under with a birdie at No. 2, but three bogeys over her next four holes dropped her back to even par and a double-bogey on her final hole left her 2-over for the day. Burnett climbed 12 spots in the standings and is tied for 27th place with one round to play.

Strang was four shots better on Saturday, also recording a 73 (+2) to climb 20 spots on the individual leaderboard. It was a very consistent round for the Swedish sophomore, a bogey-bogey start notwithstanding. She rolled off nine straight pars before making a birdie at No. 2 to get to 1-over, then made par on the next five holes before closing with a bogey at No. 9. Her second round score equaled her low 18-hole round of the year thus far.

Freshman Suzie Lee posted a 77 (+6) on Saturday, but closed strong with three straight birdies on her final three holes. Katie Rose Higgins shot 80 (+9), and fellow freshman Samantha Swinehart signed for an 82 (+11).

UCLA extended its lead to nine shots after a 281 (-3) on Saturday to get to 566 (-2) for the tournament. Auburn and Alabama are tied for second place at 575 (+3). Individually, Vanderbilt’s Marina Alex is at 6-under 136, holding a one-shot lead over Cydney Clanton of Auburn.

The Gamecocks will be paired with fellow SEC members Kentucky, Florida and LSU for Sunday’s final round, which gets underway at 11:30 a.m. ET with a shotgun start. Live scoring is available via golfstatresults.com.
