COLUMBIA, S.C. — The USC Equestrian team held a successful tournament this weekend at the Irish Oaks Equestrian Centre in Irmo. Teams from eleven different schools in Zone 5 Region 2 were invited to compete in both Hunt Seat in Western divisions.

In Hunt Seat the Gamecocks tied for third place overall with Georgia behind Berry College and Auburn. First place finishers were junior Lisa Wilson in Novice Over Fences, and junior Jessica Keels in Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter. Sarah Tomasi had two second place finishes in Open Equitation and in Open Over Fences. Freshman Molly Harrison also had a second place finish in Intermediate Over Fences.

In Western competition USC came in fourth place behind Berry College, Georgia and Auburn. Freshman Kerrie Reeves placed second in Advanced II Western Horsemanship. Freshman Candice Hendrix and Sophomore Kyra Hufford each placed third in different sections of Intermediate II Western Horsemanship.

“The show went well overall” said Junior Jessica Keels. “Although we tied for third, I felt that we rode as a team.”

The Equestrian Team’s next competition will be March 2-3 at Berry College in Rome, Georgia.
