COLUMBIA, S.C. – Today in Birmingham, Ala., the Southeastern Conference (SEC) named South Carolina shortstop Amber Curtis this week’s SEC Player of the Week. Curtis led the team to a 4-1 record this week by going 9-of-16 (.562) including a home run, three doubles and four walks. By scoring seven and driving in four, Curtis accounted for 11 Gamecock runs for the week.
In the three game series against Mississippi State, the Tucson, Ariz. native went 5-11 (.455) with four runs, three RBI’s and two doubles. The sophomore is hitting .287 on the year and has started all 29 games for USC.
The Sahuaro H.S. graduate leads South Carolina with five home runs this year and is second on the team in on base percentage (.619). She is this year’s first SEC Softball Player of the Week for Carolina.
