After the first day of the heptathlon and decathlon at the Florida Relays, South Carolina senior Tacita Bass and sophomore Fred Townsend are on top of the leader boards in their respective events.

Bass scored 3332 points in the first day of the heptathlon. Teammate Antointte Wilks is third with 3185 points and Chalsea Hammond is fifth at 3011 points. Both Wilks and Hammond are competing in their first heptathlons.

Townsend has 3701 points to lead the men’s side in the decathlon as he jumped a personal best 6′ 10 3/4 in the high jump. Teammate Sean Krawiecki is fifth with 3541 points. Greg Royster is No. 9 with 3185 points, Garry Martin is in 14th place with 3095 points and Ben Yocum is 16th with 2893 points.
