COLUMBIA, S.C- Behind Cally Plummer’s 11 kills and Nadia Sefferovich’s 10, the South Carolina volleyball team completed a season sweep of Kentucky today by earning a 3-0 win over the Wildcats this afternoon at the Volleyball Competition Facility. Game scores were 30-25, 30-27 and 30-17. Next up for Carolina is a home date with Auburn next Friday night at 7:00 p.m. Carolina is now 14-3 overall, 7-3 in SEC play.

“We got back into a good rhythm this weekend,” said Carolina coach Kim Christopher. “Today, we made great transition from our defense to offense, and we made some good decisions. It was the first time since late September that we were able to put together good back to back matches.”

The first game was a struggle, as Carolina and Kentucky exchanged leads several times. Carolina took the lead for good at 14-13, and it grew to as high as 25-18. After a pair of Yajaira Cadet kills to make the score 29-21, Kentucky staged a mini rally to cut the lead to 29-25, but Wildcat Sarah Spinner hit a service error to provide the game one win at 30-25.

Carolina took the second game after racing out to an early lead at 10-6. Kentucky rallied and took the lead at 21-17 on a kill. Carolina took the lead at 24-23, and then Kentucky tied it right back up at 24 on a Sefferovich service error. Carolina scored the next three out of four points to take the lead at 28-26 on a block, then won the game on yet another Wildcat service error.

The Gamecocks ended the match by jumping out to a 12-4 game three lead, and coasted all the way in to win the game at 30-17 and winning the match.

Carolina used a strong defense by totaling nine blocks and holding Kentucky to a .169 hitting percentage. The Gamecocks hit .323 for the match.

Offensively, Berna Dwyer registered three service aces, while four other Gamecocks registered two apiece.

Plummer’s 11 kills today now give her 15 of 17 matches with double-digit kills.
