BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Five University of South Carolina women’s tennis players were named to the 2002 Southeastern Conference Women’s Tennis Academic Honor Roll Tuesday by SEC Commissioner Roy Kramer.

Seniors Katarina Markovski, Jennifer Radman, Tamara Sutton and Lynn-Yin Tan each were named along with junior Catherine Brown. Radman and Tan earned the distinction for the third time in their careers, while Sutton and Brown are now a two-time selections. Markovski is a first-time Academic Honor Roll selection.

The 2002 list runs Carolina’s all-time total to 47 women’s tennis academic honor roll honorees. That figure is more than any other SEC member since 1992, the year USC joined the conference.

A total of 55 student-athletes from the conference’s 12 schools were named to the list. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must: 1) have a 3.0 grade point average for either the past year or for their career, 2) be a sophomore or higher in academic classification, and 3) have 24 semester hours countable toward a degree.

The 2002 SEC Women’s Tennis Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2000-2001 academic calendar.

The 2002 SEC Women’s Tennis Championships begins Thursday, April 18 and runs through Sunday, April 21 in Columbia, S.C.

USC, which finished at 7-4 and in fourth place in the SEC regular season, earned a first round bye for the tournament. The Gamecocks will face the winner of Thursday’s Tennessee/Arkansas match in the quarterfinals Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Maxcy Gregg Tennis Center on the USC campus.
