Columbia, SC – The University of South Carolina Track and Field teams came home Wednesday to host the 2002 South Carolina State Collegiate Track and Field Championships at the Weems Baskin Track Facility. The Gamecock Men finished second, winning five events while the women finished fourth, winning three.

Corey Taylor had the most impressive showing as he ran a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 13.74 and winning the 110m hurdles, only two-hundredths of a second away from an automatic mark. Jarred Johnson finished sixth in that race, running a time of 15.23. Johnson also won the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.65.

Mark Howell won the men’s 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:09.11. Howell also finished second in the 5000m run with a time of 16:23.87.

The USC 4x100m relay team also won, as they finished with a time of 40.54.

Greg Royster finished second in the pole vault with a mark of 4.70m and seventh in the long jump with a mark of 6.39m.

Shamus Singletary ran 21.33 in the 200m dash, finishing second while Thomas Lewis won the 400m dash with a time of 48.42.

On the women’s side, Heather Nisbet won the javelin competition with a mark of 34.37m. Kinsey Eschenburg finished second in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 12:03.34.

Qualenda Washington finished third in the discus (39.22m), fourth in the hammer (45.94m), and fifth in the shot put (9.96m).

Lori Tvarkunas finished second in the pole vault with a mark of 3.50 meters.

Khalilah Carpenter won the 100m dash with a time of 11.58 while Alexis Joyce finished third with a time of 11.88.

Sheneka Griffin won the 800m run with a time of 2:18.61.

The Gamecocks now travel to Knoxville, TN fir the Sea Ray Relays.
