COLUMBIA, South Carolina – 22nd-ranked South Carolina, on a record-breaking day, downed visiting Furman 6-1 Wednesday at the USC Indoor Tennis Center in women’s tennis action.
USC senior Lynn-Yin Tan hit a winning forehand to claim a 9-7 win in her doubles match and in the process became the school’s all-time career doubles wins leader with 87 victories. Tan got the win alongside partner Jodi Kenoyer over Furman’s Kovarik/Bentley tandem.
Later in the match Tan was the fourth of five Carolina singles winners in a dominant effort by the Gamecocks over a key southeast region foe. That win was Tan’s 90th career singles win, which places her third in USC history in that category.
USC won all three doubles matches to claim a 1-0 lead in the match. USC is now 8-1 in dual doubles matches this season and, including last season’s results, have won the doubles point in 23 of their last 27 matches.
