COLUMBIA, S.C. – The 22nd-ranked South Carolina women’s tennis team downed visiting Clemson 6-1 Saturday in a non-conference match at the Maxcy Gregg Tennis Center on the USC campus, marking the ninth consecutive regular season win for the Gamecocks over their archrival.
Carolina, 4-0, jumped out of the gates very quickly, stretching out leads in each of the three doubles matches. USC cruised to win all three matches and claim an early 1-0 lead in the match. Doubles scores were: 26th-ranked Radman/Kathy Boyanovich (USC) defeated Stanoycheva/Savitskaya (CU) 8-5, 36th-ranked Tan/ Kenoyer (USC) defeated Lacelarie/Jayet (CU) 8-3 and Markovski/ Brown (USC) defeated Paun/Dolinska (CU) 8-2.
The Gamecocks continued their hot play in singles action, as USC dominated the action for the win over the Tigers (2-2). Jennifer Radman, ranked 71st in the nation, had no troubles with Milena Stanoycheva, winning 6-2, 6-0. Kathy Boyanovich continued her solid play, winning at No. 3 singles in straight sets 6-0, 6-4 over Anna Savitskaya. Carolina clinched the match at No. 5 singles behind a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win by Tamara Sutton over Ioana Paun. Other winners for USC included Lynn-Yin Tan (defeated Ana Stiglic 3-6, 6-1, 6-2) and Jodi Kenoyer (defeated Laurence Jayet 7-5, 7-5).
South Carolina returns to action next Saturday when they host Georgia Tech at 1 p.m.
