SEC Women’s Tennis Championship
Hosted by University of South Carolina (Columbia, SC)
# 2 Florida Coach Roland Thornqvist
“Kentucky is excellent in doubles. Their #2 spot is the best I have seen. #3 was a marathon, I was happy to see us respond in singles play, we played with good energy. Sometimes to win you gotta have a tough one in between. I told them to let this motivate us to get at them even more.”
(on playing Vanderbilt tomorrow)
“Well, it was a dog fight last time, and it should be again. We just need to go back, get re-hydrated and rest up for another match.”
Florida Player Julia Scaringe
“Everyone was in shock (after the doubles finished,) we sat there for an hour and a half. We were disappointed but we really just wanted to get singles started. I have had some bad breaks this year, with injuries and all, everything clicked today. I feel a little bit of added pressure to lead and motivate, I haven’t been playing well lately.”
#7 Kentucky Coach Mark Guilbeau
“We played pretty well. I was pleased with our play. Our doubles matches with Florida have been a battle all year. It is a combination of tennis and competition. A lot of people knock the style of play, but I’m happy we battled and won. We needed to learn to take a lead against top teams. We’re not satisfied, but today was a step in the right direction for our program. Florida is better than we are. I use them as an example to our team of what it’s like to compete. Florida always gets balls back….That is intensity. I am proud of our kids”
Kentucky Player Jill Buckley
We tried really hard. It was cool to get the doubles point. It was kind of hard to keep focus after the draining doubles point.”
