GEORGIA HEAD COACH LU HARRIS-CHAMBER
“This was a well-fought game. UMBC was ready to play but fortunately we were too. Our hitters did a good job of adjusting late in the game. Lacey Gardner did a great job on the mound and Kristen Bell did an outstanding job of coming up with the clutch run.”
(on winning her 300th game today) “It was pretty cool but I’m not one for numbers. I want the team to play hard and play well. And we did that today.”
(on what the team needs to do in tomorrow’s game against either USC or Eastern Kentucky) “We have to come out and be ready to play. We came out a little nervous today. Even though it is the NCAA Regionals, we have to be ready to play.”
GEORGIA PLAYER NICOLE BARBER
(On scoring the game-winning run) ” I was planning to go on the first pitch. I knew one of the next two hitters would bring me home.”
GEORGIA PLAYER KRISTEN BELL
(On hitting the game-winning RBI) “With Nicole’s speed, all I had to do was get a ground ball. I wanted a good pitch, sit back and be late on the ball and hit it up the middle.”
UMBC HEAD COACH JOE FRENCH
“I thought it was a great game. I liked how we came out of the box and scored an early run. Obviously we were hoping for a multi-run inning. We had some chances later in the game where we were looking for a big hit to go ahead in the game, maybe take the lead. We had a well-pitched game and the kids played well, sometimes you just do not get thebreaks. ”
UMBC PITCHER LINSI MOY
“I have confidence in our defense, and I thought we did a really good job to only allow three hits. I tried not to pitch the same to every batter and mix it up a bit.”
