Columbia, S.C. – The 2002 Louisville Slugger Southeast Region Softball Team was announced today and senior pitcher Megan Matthews was named to the second team, earning her fourth consecutive Region honor. Matthews is only the fifth USC player to be named to an All-Region team all four years during her career.

This is Matthews third postseason honor for the year. In addition to the all-region team, Matthews earned All-SEC and was named to the SEC Academic honor roll earlier this month. The Greer, S.C. native is USC’s all-time leader in strikeouts (1080), appearances, innings pitched and complete games. Matthews earned the victory in round one of the NCAA Regional in Columbia, to become only the second USC pitcher to ever record 100 victories.

Matthews is only one of three SEC players to make the team. Georgia’s Kim Wendland and Nicole Barber were named to the first team. The team is voted on by coaches in the Southeast Region.
