Recap?|? Box Score

2002 NCAA Division I
Women’s Softball Region I Tournament
May 16-19, 2002
Beckham Field (Columbia, SC)
(#2 Georgia vs. #3 South Carolina)

Georgia Head Coach Lu Harris-Champer
“Every time we play South Carolina, you know it is going to be a good ballgame. I think that all six times that we have played them, it has only been by one run. Today was another good game. We got outstanding pitching by Michelle [Green] and behind her was awesome defense, which, I believe, is what made the no-no happen.”

Georgia Centerfielder Nicole Barber
“That [my bunt] was probably the best bunt that I have ever laid down. Once I got on first, I knew that on the first pitch, I’d be going. Once I reached third, Kim [Wedland] was up and Kim has been hitting me in all year, so I knew I was going to score.”

Georgia Pitcher Michelle Green
“They weren’t looking outside in the beginning, so I kept them outside. Later in the game they started looking outside, so I busted it in. I just used my different pitches to throw them off.

South Carolina Head Coach Joyce Compton
“I think [Michelle] Green did a great job of keeping us off balance. All afternoon I think we got three or four good swings on her. All afternoon I thought we played well defensively, we did what we needed to do on that side of the ball. It’s hard to win a game if you don’t get any hits. I don’t think we adjusted real well, but obviously I credit Georgia for keeping us off balance. It’s disappointing to get no hit in our own ballpark, but all we can do is pin our ears back and rebound tomorrow.

South Carolina Leftfielder Adrianna Baggetta
“I think we didn’t just get that spark today. With our team, hitting is contagious and we couldn’t get one to fall. We didn’t have good at-bats today.”
