As the Gamecock Track and Field Team prepares to compete at the NCAA Championships, USCSports.com sat down with Tacita Bass of the South Carolina Women’s Track and Field Team in a quick Question and Answer Session.

USCSports: What is the best part about the University of South Carolina?

TB: The atmosphere, the family atmosphere. That family atmosphere is what I like most about USC.

USCSports: What is your most memorable track and field moment?

TB: I have several memorable track and field moments . Winning the SEC Championships my freshman year was my first biggest one. Winning SECs my senior year was another big one. Also, scoring 5,631 in the heptathalon.

USCSports: What is your favorite other than track and field?

TB: Volleyball. I really like to play it. I like playing it more than watching it. I hate watching it. I get to play volleyball when I go home, I don’t play it here.

USCSports: What do you like the best about the coaches at USC?

TB: They are easy to talk to about anything. They help with more than just athletics, but also with life situations. Their door is always open.

USCSports: What do you like to do around Columbia on your day off?

TB: Go to the mall and visit friends that live around Columbia. Also traveling, I love traveling.

USCSports: What do you do to prepare for each track meet?

TB: I try to relax as much as possible. Nothing unusual, just basic stuff that I do everyday. I sit around talking, sleeping, eating normal, just basically relaxing.

USCSports: What was your favorite vacation spot as a kid?

TB: The beach. Gulf Shores, it’s about an hour from Mobile, AL, where I am from. Gulf Shores was definitely my favorite vacation spot.

USCSports: Has your senior year been what you expected?

TB: The whole college experience has been more than I expected. I’ve met a lot of people, I’ve been to a lot of places, and I’ve had a lot of experiences that I don’t think I would have had if I hadn’t come to the University of South Carolina.

USCSports: What was it like winning the SEC Championship?

TB: Freshman year it was more of a surprise and it got me really excited. This year, my senior year, it was more of something I wanted. I feel I worked harder for it this year. Before it was just a surprise but this year I really worked hard for it.

USCSports: What do you think the team has to do to win the NCAA Championships?

TB: We don’t have to do anything extraordinary. If we just do what we did at SECs, then we should be ok. The times that have been run and everything that’s been done in the past, if we do that at NCAAs, then we’ll be fine.
