COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina rising junior women’s golfer Marci Robinson fired a tournament-record four-under 68 score Tuesday and leads the Columbia City Golf Championship by five strokes after one round at The University Club. The second of three rounds gets underway Wednesday morning on the par 71, 5,277-yard course.

Robinson has a five-stroke advantage over former USC women’s golf coach Kim Abbott, who had a two-over 73. Rising senior Kacy Thompson had a 76 and is in fourth place on the South Carolina home golf course.

Robinson, native of Columbia and graduate of Spring Valley High School, had five birdies on her way to the 68. At even par through 12 holes, Robinson birdied holes 13, 14 and 15 and narrowly missed a birdie on hole 18.

Robinson and Thompson recently completed their South Carolina seasons after leading the Lady Gamecocks to their second-straight NCAA Championships berth and 2002 Southeastern Conference title – the first such title in USC golf history.
