COLUMBIA, S.C. – Winning the USA and World Title in 2001, USC Volynteer Coach Allen Johnson will be attending the ESPY Awards tonight as he is nominated for Male Track and Field Athlete of the Year.

Johnson currently is the second fastest runner in the 110m hurdles in the world for 2002 as he ran a time of 13.04 at Forte-de-France. He also won the United States’ 110m hurdles title. Johnson will be representing the United States at the World Cup in September in Madrid, Spain.

“I’m excited to go to the ESPY,” said Johnson. “I am going to be with so many great athletes, it will be an honor to be recognized with them.”

Johnson competes in Europe and has been a volunteer coach at South Carolina since 1996.

“Allen provides a source of inspiration to all of the members on our track team,” said South Carolina Head Track and Field Coach Curtis Frye. “His hard work and dedication sets a very good example for all and we are proud that he will be representing the University of South Carolina at the ESPYs.”
