Former South Carolina hurler Kip Bouknight threw a no-hitter for High-A Salem on Wednesday evening in a 5-0 victory over the Frederick (Md.) Keys in the Carolina League. Bouknight improved his record to 12-7 on the season for the Avalanche, class A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. Bouknight struck out eight to increase his strikeout total to 101 on the year, becoming the third pitcher with Salem to reach the century mark.

As a junior at Carolina, Bouknight was named the 2000 Golden Spikes winner and a consensus All-American following a 17-1 season with the Gamecocks. A 13th-round draft pick in 2001 with Colorado, Bouknight set USC career records for innings pitched (482.0), strikeouts (457), games won (45) and games started (57). Bouknight compiled a 45-12 record in four years at South Carolina.
