The South Carolina women’s tennis team opened up the fall schedule this past weekend at the Furman Fall Classic. The classic had six flights of singles play and three flights of doubles. The Gamecocks had three players who advanced to the singles championship match while having only one advance and winning the doubles.

Freshman Danielle Wiggins started her career in fashion. The freshman from Jacksonville, Florida won three straight single matches to win the flight three singles championship. Wiggins also won the flight three doubles championship with teammate Ayako Suzuki.

Suzuki, and Magda Wojdylo posted runner-up finishes in their single flight tournaments. Wojdylo paired with Catherine Brown finished third in the flight two doubles tournament.

“We did pretty well and we look to build upon that success in the future. Danielle Wiggins is going to be a great player,” said Coach Arlo Elkins.

This weekends Lady Gamecock Classic has been cancelled. The Lady Gamecocks will return to action October 11-13 at the Clemson Invitational.
