Auburn, Ala. – The No. 24 South Carolina Gamecocks (16-3, 9-0 SEC) swept the Auburn Tigers (1-19, 0-8 SEC) for the second time this season as the Gamecocks won 30-19, 30-22, 30-21. Now 9-0 in SEC play, the Gamecocks tie the school record for the best SEC start, which was originally set in 1997. Carolina is currently on a 10-match win streak, its longest streak since 2000. Freshman Sarah Morgan led Carolina with 16 kills, a career high, while senior Nadia Sefferovich recorded a season high in digs with 15.
The Gamecocks cruised to a 1-0 lead in the match as they won game one 30-19. Berna Dwyer led the game with seven kills and hit .700 with zero errors. Carolina outdug the Tigers in game one 14-7 and outhit Auburn .467 to .182.
In the game two 30-22 win, Morgan led Carolina in game two with six kills and hit .750 while Sefferovich recorded seven digs, the match high. The Gamecocks continued to hold Auburn to under .200 in hitting as AU posted a .184 average.
South Carolina dominated in game three and closed out the match with a 30-21 win. The Gamecocks led by as much as 12 in game three and was led by Morgan once again with seven kills. The Gamecocks out dug the Tigers 50-35 and out blocked AU 11-3. Auburn was held to .079 in game three, its lowest average for the match.
Carolina’s next match is Friday, Oct. 25 when they host Georgia at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 27, the No. 3 Florida Gators come to Columbia for a 1:30 p.m. match.
