Columbia, S.C. – The 2002 South Carolina baseball team will be honored on Thursday, November 14 at 7 p.m. at the 2002 Gamecock Baseball Banquet. Last season’s Gamecock squad finished as the 2002 National Runner-Up as well as SEC Champions. Carolina owned a 57-18 record and set a school record for wins in a season. Over the past three years, the South Carolina baseball program has more wins than any other Division I program with 162 victories. Carolina has been SEC champions two of the last three seasons (2000, 2002).

The 2002 season saw senior 1B Yaron Peters earn SEC Player of the Year and All-American honors. Also named All-American was shortstop Drew Meyer and pitcher Blake Taylor. Meyer, Peters and Taylor and Trey Dyson were All-SEC Selections. Dyson was the 2002 Boyd McWhorter SEC Male Student Athlete of the Year.

SEC and College World Series rings will also be presented at the banquet.

South Carolina will open the 2003 season on February 7 at 1:30 p.m. in the first of a three-game series with Charleston Southern at Sarge Frye Field. Carolina will also participate this season at the Berkeley Co-Op Shootout in Charleston, S.C. at Riley Park from Feb. 14-16. South Carolina and Clemson will renew the in-state series on March 1 at 1 p.m. at Clemson. The Gamecocks will host the Tigers on March 2 at 1:30 p.m. Carolina and Clemson will also compete on April 2 and April 9. The 2003 SEC season for USC opens on March 14 at 7 p.m. vs. Arkansas.
