The Lady Gamecocks will have four players in action this weekend at the Rolex Regional Championship in Winston-Salem. Catherine Brown, Magda Wojdylo, Ayako Suzuki, and Danielle Wiggins will compete for South Carolina.
Wojdylo, Suzuki, and Wiggins all played for their flight championship at the Furman Fall Classic. Wiggins was the only one of the three who came away with the championship.
In doubles play, Wiggins and Suzuki won their flight championship while Brown and Suzuki finished 3rd in their doubles competition.
The competition will feature players from these schools: Appalachian State, Campbell, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, Davidson, Duke, East Tennessee State, Furman, High Point, Kentucky, Liberty, Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, Murray State, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina State, North Carolina, Charlotte, Tennessee Tech, Winthrop, Wofford, South Carolina, Charleston Southern, College of Charleston, and UNC Greensboro. The field will feature 4 Top 10 players in singles competition while there are three in doubles action. The Southeast Region last year had seven teams in the top 20 of the final rankings.
The 26-team field will begin play with a qualifying round of singles action followed by main draws of both singles and doubles competition with a first round consolation bracket for singles. The winning doubles team, winning singles player and the singles finalist qualify for the Omni Hotels/ITA National Indoor Championship in Dallas, Texas, Nov. 7-10.
The Rolex Regional runs from October 24-28 in Winston-Salem, N.C at the Wake Forest Indoor Training Facility.
