Danielle Wiggins and Ayako Suzuki advanced to the Sweet 16 of the Southeastern Regional Tournament with a 8-3 win over Viktoria Gruber and Sumitra Rao of Memphis. The pair improved their record to 4-0 on the season. They won the Flight B Championship at the Furman Fall Classic on September 27th.

The duo will face 22nd ranked team of Nathalie Roels and Sarah Witten of Kentucky tomorrow at 8am. Roels and Witten are the second seeded doubles team in the bracket.

Catherine Brown and Magda Wojdylo lost 9-7 to Kentucky’s Jill Buckley and Amy Trefethen. Buckley and Trefethen were the second seeded team in the doubles tournament. Brown and Wojdylo dropped to 2-2 on the year.

In singles action, Wiggins and Suzuki both won their opening match but lost the second match of the day. Wiggins faced Ana Maria Cibils of Tennessee Tech in the opening round. Wiggins won in straight sets 7-6, 6-0. She then went on to play Sarah Witten of Kentucky. Witten the fourth seeded singles player won convincingly 6-2, 6-1. Wiggins, a freshman won her first four matches before losing to Witten.

Suzuki defeated Mary Kovarik of Furman 7-5, 6-4 but fell to Duke’s Julia Smith 6-2, 6-0. Catherine Brown and Magda Wojdylo fell in the opening round to their opposition. Brown fell to Susie Abromeit of Duke 6-0, 6-2 while Wojdylo dropped her match to North Carolina’s Aniela Mojzis 6-0, 6-2.

South Carolina Women’s Tennis team will host the Southern Intercollegiate Tournament next weekend.
